Shabnam Shaikh is a Partner in the Direct Tax and Private Client practice group in the Mumbai office.

On the tax side, Shabnam represents and advises clients on cross-border/domestic transactions, structuring of outbound/inbound investments, secondment arrangements, etc. She has also assisted in representing clients before the Tax Authorities including Authority for Advance Rulings and the Bombay High Court.

Shabnam advises extensively on private client matters involving structuring of holding of personal assets, providing strategies for succession planning, partitions, gifts etc. She also focuses on Indian and international tax issues and Indian regulatory implications in relation to migration to and from India, planning with trusts, etc. which achieves the objectives of asset protection, tax efficiency, and confidentiality. She is also instrumental in advising promoters of Indian conglomerates / high-net-worth individuals (Indians and NRIs, alike) on matters relating to family arrangements, HUFs, business succession, and estate planning.

Shabnam also plays an active role in assisting entities and employees alike in equity compensation matters. The clients she represents range from multinational companies, Indian listed companies, unlisted entities including prominent fund houses to modest start-ups. She was one of the members instrumental in drafting the Indian Securities and Exchange Board of India (Share Based Employee Benefits) Regulations 2014.

Advised a leading pharma Japanese company on acquisition of USD 170 million of stake in an Indian company.

Advising a leading infra Spanish company on the Indian leg of its group restructuring.

Mauritian JV of a Prominent Indian Company
